
Children’s Mercy Hospital is a 367-bed tertiary care system with main sites in the Kansas City metropolitan region. The hospital system includes 2 free standing children’s hospitals, each with a pediatric emergency department, 4 urgent care centers, and over 30 specialty clinics. The Child Protection (SCAN) Team at Children’s Mercy is one of the largest and most robust programs in the nation. It evaluates approximately 2500 children annually, including on-site and telemedicine programs, runs a multi-tiered, funded prevention program, and has faculty in leadership positions across the field of child abuse pediatrics.

Jim Anderst has published over 40 research articles over the past decade. He also serves as Director of Strategy and Innovation for Promise 1000, a regional home visiting collective impact network. He co-developed Child Protector, a free smartphone app used around the globe that aids in detection and evaluation of child abuse, and his currently Chair of the Child Abuse Pediatrics Sub-Board of the American Board of Pediatrics. Within CAPNET, Dr. Anderst leads the Research Development Committee.
